Well I'll agree with you that I don't really like foreign locomotives, I mostly like American and Canadian locomotives. They look really nice. Foreign locomotives however, I don't really like there whistles, America was the most creative whistle maker.
But if I WAS running 97 in this video, I would blow the crap out of that New Haven 6 chime.

The flashing red lights(o)=(o) and bells are enough warning.
Gates are uneeded and too expensive.
I also love AMERICAN steam locomotive whistles. (Chinese locomotive whistles are horrible. European whistles are laughable.)
Remember that there are people who work nights and sleep days. (In EMS, I do.)
Listening again, he began blowing much too late - only 4 seconds before crossing.
I have ridden in locomotives where the engineers were considerate and blew quietly
when no vehicles.

I don't think UP uses single note. They are deep sounding but they might be three chimes.
-
They did not need to be as powerful and they traveled lesser distances.
I don't care for feminine Canadian steam locomotives because of the European influence.
So easy to make multi-note whistles. Why did they not?
Some people are deaf at certain frequencies.
If a whistle happens to be that frequency, they won't hear it.
Multi-note are also better for that reason.
Yes, I'd blow a whistle much longer because it is unique.
Union Pacific sadly has single note "steam boat" whistles.

I also don't really like how Foreign locomotives look... They could be a lot nicer looking.

One more thing... SAFETY REGULATIONS! Blowing a whistle at a crossing is a safety regulation, and not only did he blow short, but the crossing doesn't have gates. That gives him another reason to blow longer. Safety or sleep? Which one is more important? I say safety.

Also they should stop complaining and let the engineer blow the god damn whistle all he wants. In fact, where I live, There's a train station nearby. One time I could hear 2 longs, a short, and a long, and I loved it. It was very peaceful and a very beautiful sound. I went to sleep faster.
-
Ahh, who cares what the nearby residents think. It's either safety or sleep. They should stop complaining that they can't sleep till 12 oclock, and get over it and live with it. It's a great sound anyway. And, you are supposed to whistle more than what the engineer did in this video. I say those residents should get up and stop complaining just because they can't oversleep. It's ridiculous. A whistle is the best thing I've ever heard anyway. It's music to my ears.

I've put many a coin on the rails over the years. Still seems like a fun thing for kids to do.
Are you from Deep River?
