Ok,

It's November the 11th and I figured I'd come home and quickly rap this song out and put it up. Right after my one minutes silence in fact.

I had ancestors on both sides of 'the Great War'. I've read a lot of history about it....not sure what was so great about it....in fact I think the whole thing sucked. I know I'm being simplistic, this is youtube and this is not THAT kind of channel.

Anyhoo, I thought (as millions of others do) that this song was a poignant reminder of the suffering that the PBI were put through on both sides of that conflict.

Written by Eric Bogle (who lived in my hometown for a while) and performed by just about everyone with any kind of involvment with folk music, this song is kind of the stairway to heaven of folk songs.

It's actually a damn fine song.

Now I play it too. Please be gentle, the little red light still makes me nervous.

Best served with a minute of silence.

  • Great version, thanks. It's not clichéed, the way you sing it. I'd say it's more 'over done', so it's refreshing to hear someone who gives this great song some heart. :o)
