The dumbest idea ever...you take the last "truly" pristine waterway in Michigan...the last one that can actrually support Coaster Brook trout and you put an acid mine drainage sulfide mine on it...
20 years of jobs and a 10,000 years of ruined groundwater, a 1000 years of destroyed fishery, and 100 years of destroyed surface ecosystem.
to all of you who think kennecott will help our economy: It is a london and Canadian based company, the only money michigan will see is the wages for the 5 to 7 years the mine will be active
In such a location as the UP of Michigan with over a hundred years of historical mine waste already laying on the surface. The forgotten claims are the main polluters, when new developments (Mines) are developed within areas of historical waste; management programs to assist in the clean up efforts are part of the plan. Before any mining activities begin monies are secured for closure of the facility. These monies are used to return the site to a close to a natural state. JOBS!
Yes, but why pollute more pristine areas? There's quite a distance from one site to another, and many of the older mines were for iron, which causes much less lasting damage. Since the superfund was de-funded by Bush & Co., cleanup has been halted. And the technology exists to prevent acid mine drainage, but it is often too expensive to use, so cheaper methods, still unproven, are tried to neutralize the wastes. Risks for gluttony, and a legacy of pollution.
kennecott is owned by rio tinto, a UK conglomerate known for its flagrant disregard of environmental law. the money made by this company off the mine will be going out of the country, not recirculating in our economy.
1st, thanks for the video - great job!! Honest businesses will prosper in the 21st century. Recyclers, better-materials industries, and green materials producers are the future; the small amount of rare elements we do need can come from the safest sources and methods; Efficiency and greater intelligence should lead us toward a green future. Making politics and governance more honest and accountable is a big part of the process. The other is our awareness and connectedness to nature...;-)

That's good thinkin'

No Sulfide Mine. No Kennecott. Save Marquette County, the U.P. and the Upper Midwest from this beast.
this is a bad deal all around.
