of course, Schiavo's voice is slightly lighter, sweeter, 'fresher': she is younger, and also the native German language-speakers have phonetics that innately affect the physiology of the vocal cords, therefore some have high notes tending to sound more 'blank' or devoid of much color, and more white thin, and bright, but they can also sound very dark/bitter-toned, cuz of the throat mechanism in the language, I'm guessing.

wow, I guess we hear things differently i could actually pin-point little nuances they have in common, they both use the technique of semi-grinning/smiling when they sing, I'm sure you have seen Damrau, she is known for doing this extensively keeping the lips tight but shaped in a crescent moon-shaped smile, both Damrau & Schiavo tend to be more forceful with certain abrupt notes they both spin them with this quick, machine-gun-like vibrato, and they both have a rich, chesty tone, than Piau.

@whistlenotelover Indeed, a fantastic recording.
It's true, some sopranos added F's and G's as embellishments, but as you may know, Sandrine often is faithful to the partitura, she usually sings "come scritto", and maybe that's the reason she didn't went higher than the Eb. ;)

@whistlenotelover Well, to me, their timbres are almost the same, and also, their coloratura technique. Anyway, both great singers.
You've mentioned MG Schiavo, to me, no similiarity with Damrau's voice, what so ever. LOL heheh.

As you may know she recorded a disk that features Giunia's famous bravura aria "Ah se il crudel periglio" {from the opera: Lucio Silla}, that calls for some staccatos, some sopranos who can execute Fs or Gs, but on the record she emitted Eb6's, so I figure her top comfortable note is an Eb/E6.

I disagree the only thing they have in common is that both Damrau & Piau are fuller lyric-coloraturas, but for me the similitude ends there, if you listen closely you can hear that Sandrine has this 'rubato' effect to her voice, it's smooth and 'bends' with a creaminess always perfectly intonated, and u can clearly hear the 'on-the-breath' of how the voice sits, and 'floats' about. She has more in common in this respect with ROBERTA INVERNIZZI. Also MARIA GRAZIA SCHIAVO sounds more like Damrau.
ça fait du bien d'entendre cette musique et voix gracieuse après une semaine de pollution acoustique
