Tetanus, The Spider Who Spammed Me, has come over to the good side! Erna and Tetanus explain to Weena how pieces of code called "spiders" do the work of finding the web pages you're searching for, to gather the text, images, and other stuff that make up your search engine results.

  • Lovely Karaoke voice!

  • @furuigakko Only the best! To think at some point I almost forgot we were going to ask Ian for help with that...

  • I always wondered what the term "cloud" was called such for. And nice spider prop!

  • @saijeehiguchi thanks! We were so excited to make use of good ol' Tetanus again. "Cloud" pretty much means "stuff you do remotely, with a whole bunch of servers," as far as we can tell. Usually to a group of servers owned by a single company -- Amazon's cloud service, or Google's. y'know? Wikipedia knows better than we do.

  • Ponies are the utmost importance to the web.

  • @061342 We are in agreement, mah brony.

  • "Databases always look like can's when you draw them"…

    love it!

  • So now I know how search engines work. It all makes sense to me now. I can see it so clearly. I am a god! An all-knowing internet god! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • First time I saw a "cloud" demonstration was while doing community service at an international technology thing. This guy named "Pranav Mistry" was showing of the use of a cloud to take pictures of stuff with his phone and without uploading the pictures to an external device, he could access them on his lap top. Pretty cool stuff that guy's got in the works.
