This pulsed detonation engine was tested at the UT Arlington Aerodynamics Research Center in early 2008. The detonation frequency is 1 Hz (slow to allow for data analysis). This engine features a 1 inch (inner diameter) pre-detonator using propane and oxygen and a 4 inch (inner diameter) combustor using a liquid fuel and air mixture. The ignition system uses a plasma arc source instead of more commonly used automotive spark plugs.
