MEET EDWARD SANTOS

Born in Beverly Hills, CA and raised in Pomona/Chino Hills, CA, Edward started his dancing career at the age of 8 at MKR Dance Productions. After his first year of taking only hip hop, he sucked up the "just for girls" factor and eventually opened up to other styles, gaining a considerable amount of training in jazz, tap, and ballet until the end of high school. At 12 years old, he and his sister were forced into ballroom lessons against their will at Let's Dance LA in Alhambra (The studio changed its name and moved; the previous studio is now Jayvee Dance Center). After only a few months, he and sister were invited to join the studio's Junior Exhibition Team, "Salsational." The two remained members for several years, doing various competitions and performances throughout the area. At the same time, Edward also took classes at other studios, being coached and trained by several world-renowned ballroom dancers. During his sophomore year in high school, he became one of the head coordinators and choreographers when the Filipino club of Troy High School made the debut of its modern dance crew, PSST Modern, which is still in existence today. In college, he joined a small dance team at Cal Poly Pomona, DREAM Team, under the direction of Tony Tran and another friend. Edward has been a teacher at several different studios and is currently a private dance instructor, teaching mainly ballroom and hip hop for debuts and cotillions, but also other styles as requested. Recently, he was invited to be a member of Brian "BK" Kim's project "People Say I Move Funny, Part II" and performed with them at MaxtOut this season.

In the summer of 2007, Edward joined his first and only competitive collegiate dance team, Barkada Modern (aka bMod), also based at Cal Poly Pomona, where he continued and extended his dancing career to the present day. Coincidentally, the year he joined was the year that bMod made its debut as a competitive team. He became one of the head choreographers and a member of the team's artistic committee his first year and became Executive Director in the summer of 2009. The team has showcased his choreography in numerous competitions since then. He is currently in his 4th year on the team and has stepped down from his position as Executive Director, but continues to dance with a group of people he can easily call his family. -"Soowoo!"

He is both humbled and grateful to have been given the opportunity to teach and represent his team for such an influential part of the dance community.
