from wikipedia: McCulloch died of heart failure caused by a heroin overdose on 27 September 1979[4] in his flat in Maida Vale, North West London. He was 26.

I wish Jimmy had taken his own advice in this song- he sure was a real young musician. Although at the time drugs were pretty common in spite of causing many famous people's death. I guess, sadly nobody paid much attention.
