@bedobe1 sorry, my bad. I was thinking this was used with a 35mm adapter and that the 35mm adapter would be pointless since I can achieve this dof without one. I really need to get one though so I can get a shallow DOF with close up subjects and not having to stand 20 feet away :)

@bedobe1 You are right sir, Everything shallow (from the subject forward is in the field of focus thus shallow depth of field. Deep Depth of field would result in everything Deep in the picture being in focus.

@pf008 I believe the point of a shallow DOF is to make sure everything in the background is out of focus, to bring attention or more attention to the intended subject. In photography it is often a desired effect, often referred to as bokeh.

There's no point in trying to get a shallow DOF when everything behind the plant is far away.

Having a blurred background (film look is exactly the point) This must be done with shallow depth of field.
