The backhand slice is one of the most misunderstood strokes in the game. Open the racket face too far and your opponents will be eating your backhand slice for lunch. Swing across your body on the backhand slice and it will require impeccable timing to keep in the court consistently.
This week Ryan Segelke from High Altitude Tennis explains step by step how to hit an effective backhand slice that will drive your opponents absolutely bonkers.
The backhand slice is more properly called the backhand under spin.
Chips are for parties, not for the tennis court - Steve Smith.
Start in a ready position and turn as if you are going to hit a tennis backhand. Instead, slide one hand up to the throat of the tennis racquet and open the tennis racquet 10 degrees to prepare for your tennis backhand slice. It is important to remember that as you become more skilled, you can open the racquet face more for your backhand slice. By swinging out to your target on the tennis court, you will keep the ball low and your backhand slice will produce a ball that will bounce through the court instead of popping straight up for your opponent to smash a tennis forehand winner.
Now go out and practice your backhand slice!
