This video details the process of making a rhinestone transfer from start to finish. It looks easier than it is! Permaboss discontinued this transfer board method because we now have the single head robots. Our philosophy was to always have automation and high quality equipment. The Mini Motif Maker doesn't offer the same profitability as a robot.
If you are a hobbyist who really isnt too concerned about profit and you have all the time in the world or dont mind working till the wee hours doing everything by hand, then the Roland EGX or this machine is perfect.
People honestly forget to really calculate the total time involved from beginning to end. Without RhinestoneWorx software they are taking 2-3 times longer to make the same design with the DAS, Roland or CAMS software and they simply cant do the same things!
Then they need to cut one board per color and shuffle each board with rhinestones. You then need to make sure its 100% before you place the transfer paper on top. If you hesitate, or if there is a bit of static or you mess it up, take your credit card or hotel room key and scrap it off and start again.
Now with two or more colors or two or more sizes it gets MORE fun. Now you have a perfect part 1 but you mess up on part 2 and you have to do both over!
Personally Im not that patient. Time is money and a transfer with a robot is supposed to cost you $0.25-$0.40 for a 300-400 stone count design. A Libero robot will make that in 3 minutes- we tell you were to purchase stones so that you get an SS6 crystal for $0.0006 or $0.0008 not 3-5 times that amount! Permaboss never sells the supplies, its like double dipping. Maybe we are the stupid ones because you can make far more off a client who pays 3-5 times what they should on supplies for the lifetime instead of us selling a machine or two or more over the life time. Think about it. You are in America or Europe. Labor costs are not $29/mo like in China!!! So you cant be a manufacturer and buy your supplies for a middle man.
If your cost of goods is $1.20 or $1.50 instead of $0.30 then its a great deal for an engraver supplier to sell you supplies and make $500 a month of you for life!!! Thats the same price as the cost to lease a Libero Single from Permaboss! If you make 500 transfers at $0.30 thats $150.00 /mo. in supplies instead of 500 X $1.50 or $750 in supplies! And the worst part is that you will spend hours and hours to do what the Libero Single Rhinestone Robot does in minutes! Now you MUST calculate your hourly rate and factor it into the cost! If you have an employee at $8.00 per hour then you can expect more screw ups than a person for $12.00/hr.
What are you worth?? What do you need to make! Well if you are in business and using a machine then the standard for embroidery machines is $42.00/hr! That actually sucks because after calculating all your payments and overhead and costs it means you barely have $12/hr left over. The norm is supposed to be no less than $75/hr for machine time!
So take a look at this now. One transfer (300 stone count two or three colors) costs you (on the robot) 3 minutes of time and about $0.40 in materials and transfer paper (provided you are not buying from middleman suppliers in the USA)
48 transfers would take you 2.4 hours on the robot and be 100% complete! Those transfers would sell for about $4-$5 at that quantity. So lets say $4.50 X 48 = $216.00 plus your artwork setup charge to the client of $35-$55 (take a wholesale rate of $35) thats $251.00 for 2 hrs and 25 minutes of work or $104.00 per hour. If you put those onto 48 shirts and wholesale them for $15.00 each thats $480 profit ($10/shirt) for under 3 hours of work! I bet your job doesnt pay that! And thats why its easy for Permaboss to make your machine profitable in 90 days or less!
Do that on a motif maker, or engraver and that same job would take you at least two people and most of a work day not including the errors and frustration, misaligned stones (they can NEVER touch using the template board technique)
So before you purchase a template board/stencil/vinyl cutter system. Think about calling Permaboss and at least using one of our robot machine customers to get you going until you can afford a machine. Outsource in America or bite the bullet and wait to do it right with a profit with the right equipment. Whats cheap is really expensive in the long run and good and expensive machines up front are ALWAYS cheap in the long run!
