A jet engine designed and built in Lincolnshire has powered a luge to a new world record. The Nimbus H80 engine, built by Metheringham firm Heward, launched the street luge to a top land speed of 114mph. The previous record was 98mph and that machine had been powered by a rocket.
The record breaking luge rider Joel King praised the jet engine -- normally used for powering military aircraft -- for giving him such a smooth and fast ride.

  • I buy me some of them engines and I got me a plane haha

  • And This Luge even has Ceramic Bearings (costs about $100 for 8 bearings. each wheels uses 2) which made it possible to go that fast by reducing the friction that Steel bearings make.

  • WTF!

  • Check out the other videos of him. He holds the record for the fastest streetluge run, at 114.7mph!

  • thats crazy how fast were u going?

  • my god that is fast id like to give it a try

  • Very nice ride!

I find it amazing how many different types of powered luges there are now. Maybe one day there will be a show where we can all display our talents.
