Of all the instruments that are, Z 263

Catch for 3 voices

Text: Anonymous

Music: Henry Purcell (1659-1695)

Published in the fourth book of 'Comes Amoris' (London: John Carr and Samuel Scott, 1693)
___

The Deller Consort,
conducted by Alfred Deller

Recorded in September 1976

Pitch: A = 415 Hz
___

The first score featured in this video is from 'Comes Amoris'.

The second one is from the first book of 'The Catch Club' (London: John Walsh, c.1700), in a late 18th-century reissue, similar to the original one.

I have two other recordings of this catch, both with a bass viol accompaniment, which is a mistake, in my opinion, because the singers, with their onomatopoeias, are already supposed to make us hear the sound of this instrument.
