A mix of busy suburban cross streets with long uninterrupted straightaways are found on this trail section. Also found is a good selection of services like food and bike shops, and even a golf course or two along with an overlook of a working stone quarry. 2X

  • thats a long ride how long did it take

  • Good ?. I only had 4X1.5 hours of videotape to use 4 the full roundtrip. My cyclocomputer had my ave speed @ 16mph. This seemed low (I was cruising @ 25mph for one stretch + even maintained 27mph for a while), but then I remembered the slow downs at all the street crossings. I did "cheat" and take 5-10min breaks at each tape change. Also, I have to admit I started to feel it on the last part of the return trip.

I guess all in all it was in the 6 1/2 hour range--just not a very speedy anymore.

  • Back in the late 60's, early 70's I was one of a number of high school kids from Marshall and Mclean high schools that hiked the W&OD right of way out to Purcellville , writing up a report for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority about converting the W&OD right of way into a Rail Trail.

We camped out on farmer' fields near the trail where now is urban sprawl and had to swim across Goose Creek.

    It was a blast.

    Great Video

    Thanks

  • lol i live right where it meets dry mill road
