Greg Gates of Gates Performance Engineering in Laingsburg, Mi, specializes in performance of the hand made variety.

A former GM design engineer, Gates designed and machined the 230-plus hp engine
that set a new record of 171.252 MPH at Bonneville.

The monster 158ci motor looks like a Harley on steroids. I can run it at 110 mph and
crack the throttle and smolder the tire! says Gates.

The engine has a 4.6 inch bore, a 4.75 inch stroke, titanium valves, billet cylinder heads (milled from 50-pound aluminum blocks, aluminum connecting rods and pistons fabricated from blanks both used in NHRA pro stock racing motors. Gates builds high-end custom and racing motorcycle engines that will sell for $9,000 to $32,000.

  • The quest for speed brings such ingenuity and spirt to the salt flats that I can't get enough of. I hope to keep doing more, thanks,

  • Well its a case of late mid-west winter cabin fever, so watching some action on the salt was what the doctor ordered. Kudos to Greg for your talents in designing and manufacturing. Ken, you do a great job in tuning that fire breathing monster. Sean, hard to find for such a great guy with a sense of humor to brighten up any cloudy day, and then ride that monster the way you do. What a great team you all make. Looking forward to seeing you all again doing that - salt fever therapy. - Jimbo
