Do you crave the companionship of a pet, but can't be dogged by the commitment? New research suggests that robotic dogs can give you some of the same benefits you'd get from the real thing, as this ScienCentral News video explains. http://www.sciencentral.com/video/

  • And robot dogs don't puke in the middle of my damn living room.

  • I would never be satisfied with a pet dog devoid of personality & emotions.

  • does the dog poop out nails and screws or does the thing piss oil

  • the point is that most people had to keep horses just to get around and for farm work they didnt have a choice but now a days most people dont have the money, space or desire to own horses and cars have replaced horse for work and i beleve the same thing will eventually happen to ordinary dogs and i beleve that we will be better off.

  • nikigurl108 alot of your statements are based more on your personel feeling then the facts you said that "dogs mosty bite out of fear" you claim that i have never had really good bond with a dog and all people who own robots are lazy. you cant prove any of this dogs have a lot of draw backs that you eather over look are blame there owners for robots and computers are geting better all the time and you dont know what they will abel to do in the next few years.

  • I mean a robot does what you tell it too, whats the fun in that! I want to teach my pet to do stuff, not program the damn thing. You get a bond, and you feel a sense of accomplishment when your dog learns from teaching. And dogs teach us not to be selfish, if they need fed or a walk, they don't let you sit on your ass and not do anything. ANd dogs don't have an off button, so you don't say i'm done with you. PPl who want robots instead of a real pet are selfish with their time.

  • You obviously never had a really good bond with your dogs. Jus cus you have a dog doesn't mean u had a good bond, especially if you'd easily replace them with something that's not alive! Robots don't have feelings! And dogs are highly intelligent animals with an innocence to them. that's y so many ppl love their pets. Dogs don't jus give us companionshion they make us happy, they make us better ppl.

  • A robot dog could never truely replace a dog. And a car has taken the function of a horse, but ppl still remain having horses, for companionship, and leisure riding. Riding a car, is nothing like riding a horse. Sure a car is useful in its place, but its cannot replace a horse a together. Same with a robot dog, they may get to the pt where they use robots to do some of the same functions of a dog, but not replace a pet dog!

  • there was time when millions of people were sure they would never give up there horses but alone came henry ford my boyhood dog was a collie name lester as a teen my dog was duke and i had a black dog name ninja 10 years ago i am not asking any one to give there ordinary dog (they dont live forever) but whos to say that unique personality inst just a matter of unique programing robots dogs are mans creation the future and the best choice.

  • Okay first off robots aren't exactly the cheapest thing ever either. And obviously you've never a real bond with an animal. Getting rid of the pets we have would make a lot ppl miserable! A fuckin robot doesn't have a unique personality its jus a computer with a program tellin it what to do!

  • nikigurl all of that maybe true but that is litte confort to a victim of a dog attack and it dosent help a parent whos child had been malled by a dog. i dont hate dog the fact is we spend 41 bilion dollars a year on pet care in this country on top of the one billion we spend treating dog bites annually if every one had robot dogs thats 46 billion that could go to fight world hungey or to cancer research ect we would all be safer and the world would most likely be a better place.
