Not the most comfortable controller, but both of mine worked fine for many years. In fact, it was my console that broke down first, in the early '90s.

You're right on the market crash, the 5200 also failed because of it's bad controller, and the fact that every company was making games for the 2600, and the 5200 was almost completly ingnored

atari 5200 failed ( #3 in gt countdown worst console) its controler broke after few hours of play and the joystick didnt re-center properly. and whats with the lame controler anyways and it had same games as other consoles.
