  • why was it replaced anyway?

  • @flamesecureUK The key meter was there when I moved in. It was too much hassle having to keep topping it up so I got it swapped over.

  • i hate the digital meters. look horrible!

i mean they could be good if you could connect them to a computer network and integrate them with home automation or something but you cant :@

i suppose they are good but i hate how with some the electric company can shut it off from their offices :(

  • @flamesecure I wasn't bothered about it being digital, just glad to get rid of that key meter. This one has an IR port on the front so when they come to read it, they point their reader at it to get the readings. I think the new smart meters can connect to PCs to show your energy usage?

  • @morthren smart meters connect to everything. next it will be 'smart consumer usints' and 'smart appliances' and then everything we do will be data logged!

call me paranoid but give it 10 years

  • @flamesecure you're not wrong! it will end up happening

  • @morthren It's not IR for taking readings, it's a barcode scanner so we don't have to type in the serial numbers of the meter when a new one is installed, saves a bit of time and can't get typo's!

  • @walsheian beening a sparky myself i noticed that :P

  • So the meter technician went to his van and did not put a shroud in the fuse cut out and left it open naughty naughty!

  • Thanks for posting the video.

Still I don't like those ugly LCD displays on the newer meters. Give me a mechanical meter anytime. they are true pieces of engineering and when the power is off, at least you can read the numbers on it.

  • @morthren yeah, big brother world :(
