Sam is just a really awesome dude.

Leaving aside the fact that I respect him and Frodo equally, for different reasons, there's something insanely awesome about a person who'll just stick around with their best friend while the basically deal with an additction they didn't bring on themselves, kick a spiders ass, yell a lot, and pretty much be a decent human being, through and through, despite they themselves nearly dying a lot? He knows when he needs to step up, and wehn he does, it's EPIC.

@BIWY123 You're right - I noticed it too and thought it was just the angle at first, but upon watching it again his eyes were definitely closed in that shot. They should have just had his eyes closed the whole time! Not just because of the mistake but also because many would wonder why Sam would think Frodo's asleep when his eyes are all wide and gaping. I suspect that they saw this as an opportunity to show off Elijah's ability to stare for long periods (as Frodo's eyes were closed in the book)

I used to be one who complained about how it took a long time for Frodo to collapse - but upon watching the scene again I think I get why it was like that. Elijah's really good at communicating with only his eyes & you can see the process of realisation happening on Frodo's face the whole time - it's kinda like "oh no.. oh no.. i'm gonna die... i'm so sorry" as he showed how mortified he was about leaving Sam only moments before & he was undoubtedly thinking that just before he collapsed too :_;
