Safeties don't hog the ball, they hawk it meaning they sit back on their imaginary perch, like a hawk, and fly in a make a play on the ball...
You can't really hog the ball on safety because in a great year you probably touch it less than 20 times, in basketball if you are a "Ballhog" then you can hold the ball for half of the game...
