@caterpillarnut They make a murphy diesel on a generator. As soon as i get the time i'll upload it (It resides in Wilmington,Ohio)

Many of the early cat and holt crawlers were pole start. We have one in our club. Just make sure you do not wrap your thumb around the pole and stand off to the side when starting. But not to bad to use. Phil

I can remember seeing pictures of one of these engines being turned over- with steel rods inserted into the flywheel!

As far as I know, there isn't a murphy out there. I do however know of a large Bucyrus-Erie crane with a Murphy in it. Talk about another hell of an engine.

that thing is a monster of an engine. what would you use it for?

This one pumped water on a ranch somewhere around Orange, CA. However, many of these engines were used in oilfield service for drilling wells.

Note the description. June 21. This was well before I mucked out the crankcase for the second time and added the external oil filter.
