Are you gonna take that? Amen.

@yerk3 I used a number of sites, but you can simply check teacherportal. It's where a prospective teacher might go to find out which states offer the highest salaries.
Public vouchers for education would allow students and parents to choose the school they wanted, rather than be forced into one based on residency credentials. The public school unions are dead set against the idea, because it breaks up their monopolistic control over their very profitable public school industry.
-
@DrCruel Where are you getting your statistics? Everything you have been saying here has the reek of bullshit about it. Pell grants are nowhere near as easy to get as you are suggesting. Public vouchers for education would essentially be public education, so why not cut out the middle man and reform the public school system in stead of overhauling it for something that sounds good from a distance to unrealistic libertarians.
-
@yerk3 When the average per pupil expendiature on public schools exceeds the tuition for private schools? What are you talking about?
We have private colleges and universities, and we have Pell Grants to help student pay for them. Why not have a voucher system, where elementary and secondary students can go to any institution of learning they qualify for? How is it that allowing poor, intelligent kids to attend private rather than public schools at government expense will lead to feudalism?
-
@DrCruel Of course, a more likely outcome is that they wouldn't be able to go at all, and literacy will once again be the province of the upper classes only. What you are proposing is therefore a return to the days of feudalism, where only the aristocrats could read and everyone else was an illiterate serf.
-
@DrCruel And how would these inner city kids have paid for private schools? With manna from heaven? Have you noticed something about private colleges? Mainly the fact that they are insanely expensive, not everyone can afford to go to them, and those that do end up in debt until they're 40? So you want to extend that to elementary and middle school? Brilliant! Look forward to stories about people selling their organs to pay off debts from 3rd grade.

@yerk3 It's not simply my assertion - it's a fact. Teacher salaries in the US average in excess of $40,000 a year. Benefits and pension plans boost this even further. Might I remind also, that teachers make this over a nine month span - they get three months off each year.
Go talk to some private school teachers before you start calling me a liar. Better yet, do some of your own research instead of depending on unionized public school teachers for your info. It isn't exactly hard to do.

@MightySaturn5 Just what a troll would say.

@yerk3 I'd be happy to say goodbye to public schools, at least in the inner cities. I've had to tutor too many kids from such schools - kids that should have had the opportunity to go to better private schools or charters.
Why do we need a public school monopoly anyway? We have a mix of public and private colleges, and students can choose which one they want to attend. What makes elementary and secondary education so different?
As for the poor, why didn't they starve before welfare?
-
@DrCruel Your assertions about public school teachers bear no resemblance to the truth. Teachers' salaries are notoriously low, this is common knowledge. I doubt that you have ever worked at a public school, despite what you may say, because what you are saying contradicts the testimony of every teacher I have heard from. I do not demonize business, I just think they should have to play by the rules, don't have anybody's interests at heart but the CEO's, and need strong oversight.
I dont like those danmn republicans. What have they done but critisize Obama. Saying stupid shit like they only can such as obama is not a US citizen. He releases his birth certificate and they still bitchin about it. They are a bunch of narrow minded rednecks and racist. They cut 38 billion from the budget. I dont have a problem with cut backs but why does it have to be social programs that help the poor and disadvantaged? These fukin republicans are not christians they are hypocrites.

Gosh, you are able to say these things without steam coming out of your ears.
I admire that.
Thanks.
