MAKHACHKALA, March 22 (Itar-Tass) - The main version of the murder in Makhachkala late on Friday of Director of the Dagestan State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company Gaji Abashilov is his professional activity, the chief investigator at the region's Main Investigation Department, Shamil Yunusov, told Tass on Saturday.

He said the investigation also works on other versions, including feelings of dislike in his professional activity. Colleagues of Abashilov cannot give possible motives behind the murder. They mark his decency and fidelity to principles in his activity as director and reporter.

Gaji Abashilov will be buried on Saturday at one of the Muslim cemeteries in Makhachkala.

The Director of the Dagestan State TV and Radio Broadcasting Company was killed in Makhachkala at about 7:45 p.m. Moscow time on Friday near the Tashkent shopping mall. Abashilov and his driver were inside a Hyundai Sonata. The assailants opened submachine gunfire and escaped. Abashilov died instantly. His driver was taken to hospital.

The car used by assailants was found abandoned several blocks away from the crime scene. A Kalashnikov submachine gun, from which Abashilov is believed to have been killed, was found in the vehicle.

A federal task force will investigate the murder, a source at the Prosecutor General's Office told Itar-Tass on Friday. Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika said he would personally supervise the investigation.

Abashilov was a local celebrity. He was in charge of the popular weekly Molodyozh Dagestana for over a decade and held the last position for slightly more than one year.

In the Molodyozh Dagestana he had his own column, where he discussed pressing issues worrying Dagestan' public as well as reacted to all more or less important events taking place in the republic.

On the same day the correspondent of television Channel One, Ilyas Shurpayev, was found dead in the apartment he rented in Moscow. He was also Dagestani.

"A signal about a fire in his apartment came an hour after midnight. Firefighters arrived and, putting out the fire, found the body of Shurpayev on the bed. A belt was strapped up on his neck," police said.
