i dont think its cheating to use ableton in a live set, but i think its wrong to call it djing, cus it isnt, to call it a performance would probably be a more suitable way of describing it.

@jeromelester8 You gotta hear your stuff on the kind of speakers many of your listeners will be using. Engineer tracks to sound great in both club and bedroom and you're on a winner.

@andersnordhagen Bang on mate. Jeff Mills releases CDs with all sorts of wonky beat matching and galloping beats on them and they still sound stunning. Kinda weird in some respects I suppose because they are essentially mistakes, but those audible pushes n drags on the vinyl make it feel much more organic and dynamic to listen to.

Haha...i can see budget Behringer Truth B2031A behind the monitors. Does it means, if the music sounds good on this, then it sounds better on other system?
-
entirely, i mean a good percent of the music pressed on vinyl is made with digital instruments the 2 each bring their own style and sound and neither should be held in higher regard than the other
i don't use a DAW to mix because it's easier, i just like it better than needing to buy a record per every song i want to drop, especially when all the music i love comes from overseas and shipping gets thrown into the equation...its not taking a shortcut mixing with DAW's, just a different approach

to me i don't care how it's made as long as it sounds cool, and he said it himself that it creates a blank canvas to experiment with which is exactly why i like it...sitting there warping tunes is boring but it makes you make a mix you would never ever make otherwise, cause you end up using other tunes as reference to see if it's working properly. DJing isn't about what equipment you use, it's about what you do with the equipment you've selected to use. Hopefully digital will never replace vinyl

theres a differance between mixing a live set and a mix cd though isnt there
@andersnordhagen Bollocks mate. Couldn't care less if its done on vinyl or Ableton as long as it sounds good, the crowd are into it and the place is jumping - that's what matters at the end of the day.
