one of those things that makes the series special is that nobody wins nobody is a hero they are all just people

I remember in series three where the German deserter appears again, I can't remember if he appears between now and then again but I liked him a lot. Shame what happens.

Yes...no obvious heroes or villains...exactly how it should be...not this Hollywood nonsense which we've been drip fed

Kate, thanks for posting these episodes. When they were first shown in 1977 they had a fasination for me. Thirty odd years later it still has! You're a darling, well done.

Briljant Kate! I really like this. My favourite series when I was 12-13 years old. Lots of memories come back. Many thanks from The Netherlands.

Well Done Kate you are the best. I grew up in NZ watching this as a lad well over 25 years ago. I didn't realise that I had missed so many episodes of the first series. It certainly brings back memories. It remains one of my favourite shows of all time. Strange to think there is this younger generation that doesn't even know about it. Any plans to upload the second series?
Sorry it's taken me a bit to get more uploaded I went on holiday. But will try and get one or two up this week.

Excellent work once again, Kate. This has seriously whetted my appetite for the DVD set. Three whole series to wallow in! Interesting to note too the lack of pace compared to today's programmes. The Sweeney had that too. A very deliberate tempo, then a sudden ending not signalled by any editing crescendo, music cues etc. Compare that to Spooks, Holby and so on.

I got the DVD's via the Amazon DVD rental site. It took a while but was worth it, they have all three series available for rental.

I think that is one of the biggest differences. I watch Spooks a lot (I think it's rubbish but it's fascinating for it) which is lauded as one of the best dramas on the beeb and there's no competition. There seems to have been a definite move away from strong characters and story writing in newer series to 'Cool' US style writing with moody characters who pout a lot. I think When British programme makers try to ape the American style it ends up coming off as hollow and a bit pointless.

Yeah. This was one of the things the writers set out to do. It was planned that the first series would concentrate on lifeline's failures, becuase that's how it was.
