I called by Acton Bridge with HD Camcorder to catch some high speed action. In this series of shots, Pendolino's hammer past at the full line speed of 125mph.

Its a Shame they didn't upgrade the west coast mainline to the full 140mph to show what the pendolinos are capable of.

@Inkyminkyzizwoz It wasn't me who suggested they would upgrade it :) I actually said it was a shame they didn't - And yes, you are right, with the advent of HS2, probably not likely now. Thanks for taking the time to comment though!!

@glitch4465 Furthermore, the last upgrade of the WCML ran horrendously behind schedule and horrendously over budget, whereas HS1 was completed on time and on budget, thereby proving that it's often cheaper (and much more effective!) to build new lines than upgrade existing ones! HS2 is badly needed on capacity grounds if nothing else.

@glitch4465 Poeple are always complaining about overcrowding on trains. Well, that's partly down to the fact that we have the highest number of rail passengers since 1923 travelling on a network only two-fifths the size it was then, with the result that much of it is at or near capacity (and they reckon demand for rail travel is likely to double over the next 10 years!) The WCML in particular is the busitest main line in Europe (if not the world) and is likely to run out of capacity before long!

@liamshaw666 Yeah dont worry virgin can do this on some stretches such as Trent valley down and up fast but its not allowed yet for some silly reason lol maybe when the new franchise begins in 2012 they will do it cus they want to
