  • The shunt does not break at 2.2kn. It MAY begin to slip, most likely at 4kn. This is what is designed for so the arrest is gradual. There have been many tests done on it and this product does well. It is not the best but the most versatile piece of rope access equipment we have. If you say the shunt fails at 2.2kn, what is it meant for? In your opinion?

  • By the way, I'm the owner of a successful rope access company and an IRATA assessor and have been working with ropes for 22 years so I have a little knowledge on this.

  • The shunt has been used successfully in rope access companies for over 20 years as a back up on 11mm ropes. The asap is not approved because of it detachable lanyard. We also use the kong backup but is no good on a tensioned line.

Perhaps you are reading the instructions incorrectly.

  • good video bad security, fall arrest system had to be En353-2, the petzl shunt is forbiden because break in 2.2 KN and you go douwn

  • @mariofezada your information is incorrect. When this work was performed the Petzl shunt was an acceptable backup device and still is. I agree its not the best, but the most versatile. Where do you get your info from?

  • The cables were prussik'd earlier that day and ropes were rigged. Its just bad editing.

  • mange if it broke and fell while your on it that must be scary

  • Hate it when people say a "shunt is forbidden"...what utter tosh, it is a good piece of kit which works well , simple and easy to use, just misuse by numpties causes accidents now and then...keep it high, short string with no knot in it, can't go wrong.

  • hello i'm a trainer for access rope systems, and never has been a good sistems as you know sunt is made for braking the rope rapeling with one 8, becarefull with rhat is better that you use the locker or the asap, petzl never said that shunt is a fall arrester,if you see the instrutions...

  • The burning question is: Who did go up there to rig the ropes initially and how?
