This is a presentation of the BYOC Tremolo pedal from buildyourownclone.com. It is a small company that sells DIY kits for home made guitar pedals.

It is a replica of the EA Tremolo (from the Electronics Australia magazine), a 1968 triangle wave tremolo circuit that sounds like the vintage tremolos found in old tube amps. This is one of their best sellers since it is fairly easy to make, it has a reasonable price (like all their pedal kits) and it does not require any experience with a soldering kit.

In this small video, the guy has a tendency to use extreme settings on the knobs - the middle settings also sound very interesting. It only has a triangle wave setting (no square wave), but it only needs that since it sounds very musical and natural. Excellent alternative to a chorus or a phaser to give some retro melancholy to a song, similar to some of this video's notes.

I really like its tone... and people say it will be pretty standard too, unlike the "experiments" with different kinds of old fuzz clones which often sound like stepping on a cat's throat (or like Dave Mustaine's grandma on speed).

Disclaimer: I am not the guitar player in this video... I believe it is the guy who runs BYOC. Nice feeling in the tunes!

  • Did you paint the box and make graphics on it? How?

    Thanks

  • @amihol No, I didn't, that pedal wasn't mine. I think they are made like this by using special paper that you print on a laser printer.

  • @bloodySunday77

Aha, is this special paper label that is sticked on the original BYOC chromed box? Is label on the box sides too or only on the top?

    Thanks again.

  • @amihol I believe it's only on the top, but I can't help you further. The people in the BYOC Message Board probably can, though (google it).

  • i am about to purchase this BYOC, but how can i get a square wave version??

  • @courageouszombie I am afraid I can't help you... you'll have to email the company about that...

  • you wouldn't notice that amount of hum in a band situation at all. the guitar is fine, hum like that is totally normal.

  • I built this circuit and it sounds great but it is disappointing that the rate does not go low.. you can't get that slow throb.

  • That sounds great! Just what I'm looking for.

  • @olalator Metal Boxes - Maplins.

  • @olalator You can always buy stuff like this at newark, digikey, or mouser. I recommend ordering a digikey catalog and just looking through it. It is far easier to use then the website iff you don't know what you want. I think you can also order directly from hammond Mfg. Keep in mind that these are called "Enclosures"

  • @jagcag123 Yes but not 100% like that. This one is a bit "softer", not the helicopter effect of the square wave tremolo...
