Scots people showed solidarity with the Egyptian people when they demonstrated in Edinburgh at the Mound off Princes Street on Sat 5th February 2011. The demo was organised by the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign as part of a world-wide call for manifestations of solidarity demanding freedom for Egypt and all those oppressed in the Arab world by corrupt dictators and puppets of the Western governments. Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak has been in power for 30 years, even longer than Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali the dictator in Tunisia who was in power for 23 years. People in Egypt, like Tunisia, are fed up with government corruption and lack of jobs, and in Egypt people have also lived with the shameful fact that their dictatorship government has also been a puppet of the US and Israel and has greatly contributed to the suffering of their neighbours the Palestinian people, especially just over the border in Gaza. The Palestinian people have been oppressed by Israel since the state was set up with more and more land being appropriated till now only a fraction of Palestine remains, split into two small areas, with the Gaza strip being under blockade since the more militant Hamas party democratically won the elections in Palestine. Members of the Fatah party who were the previous Palestinian government were corrupt and in the pockets of the Israeli government, so it was no surprise that Hamas who would not sell-out to Israel were elected. But they were pleasantly surprised when they scored a landslide victory. Israel (and America with its oil interests in the Middle East) were not too happy at this democratic victory and Israel began a bombardment with denatured uranium and white phosphorus, which are carcinogenic, poisonous and illegal substances and a siege of Gaza where support for Hamas is strongest. A vastly thick and high wall has been built round the Gaza strip in what has effectively become an outdoor prison for Palestinians. Inedequate provisions are allowed in, or materials needed for maintaining a sewage plant or building new houses after old ones have been flattened by Israeli bulldozers to make way for illegal settlements for Zionist colonisers. On one side of Gaza bordering with land appropriated by Israel there are checkpoints and on the other side is the border with Egypt which has participated in the blockade by refusing the passage of necessary goods. People attempting to break the blockade have travelled by sea to Gaza but as we know, the last flotilla of boats that attempted to transport medicines and building materials was attacked by the Israeli navy in international waters 80 miles from Gaza and 19 humanitarians, primarily Turks were murdered with many more injured. All this could have been avoided if the Egyptian government had allowed the material in by land. Hopefully the Egyptian revolution will lead to a government who will allow the free transport of goods between Egypt and Palestine and an easing of the suffering of the Palestinians.
In this video, part one of two, preparations are being made for the rally, banners and placards are being set up, Palestinian flags are fluttering in the wind, a petition has been set up to ask Alex Salmond the First Minister of the Scottish Parliament to apply pressure to Mubarak to resign, and announcements are being made to advertise the demo. Then the rally starts and this video finishes after the first speech. The speaker is Egyptian and he is there with his family who are carrying an Egyptian flag and placards with requests to Mubarak to resign and let the Egyptian people rebuild their country. The rest of the speeches are in part 2.

  • Respect to Scotland...! Freedom 4 Palestine!!!!

  • @krimlin85

Unfortunately the actions of Arabs and Muslims worldwide tend to have a domino effect as far as terrorism is concerned.

For your information Islam is causing a lot of problems for My country and region and for many countries wordwide.

Muslims do tend to want to decide for others in countries and regions that are not their own.

Perhaps if they where not so intolerant they would get on a lot better with others not of Islam.

Much of this is paid for by Arab Whahabists.

  • @NoSharia4UK It's arabs & muslims region ... not you who decide what it gonna be , decide things about your region pls

  • If this freedom entails the creation of a fundamentalist run Egypt then perhaps its no good thing one wonders if this is a peoples revolution or a fundamentalist backed coup.

I will wait and see after all we dont want another terrorist run state in the region.
