This is the tenth segment of my unassisted any% speed run of Super Metroid Legacy.

This is probably the most intensive segment in the run. There are several places where it can go horribly wrong. I'll hit the highlights here, with probably more info than anyone cares to know!

@ 2:20 - Ideally, you want to build up enough speed to execute a speedball here. That block in the ceiling is actually a speed block, so as long as you've charged up the blue suit you should be good. However, if you wait until you're past that block, then you'll hit that stalactite (or is it stalagmite?), causing you to fall below the crumble bridge. This is where alot of my restarts were coming from, because once you fall below the bridge it takes a good amount of time get back up and over to the PB door. As you can see in this run, I didn't have enough speed, but luckily I was stopped before the stalactite so I could bust out a normal mockball.

@3:20 - The acid in this room has some property that makes it impossible to increment your horizontal speed. There is a way to damage boost to the bottom that is slightly faster, but I couldn't pull it off consistently.

@ 4:20 - In a "normal" run of this hack, there is a Chozo statue hidden behind some PB blocks on the left side of this room that will drain the lava below as long as you have the Space Jump. However, the creator added a secret passage to bypass this, provided you can execute a short/quick charge. At the bottom of this room, you want to be able to build up enough speed to run down the slope in the next room with blue suit. Then, you can charge a shinespark at the bottom of the slope and use it to pass through the next room with the pillars quickly. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough speed, so I space jumped over the slope and ran through the lava in next room, costing about 5-10 seconds.

@5:00 - This shaft can be a real pain to climb, it's kind of like the one in Maridia that contains the plasma beam, but longer. Also, did I wall-jump off of one of the yellow pirates on the way up this shaft? LOL

The rest of this segment went pretty well. I was able to take out Ridley quickly, even with his unusual movements at the beginning. I did make some jittery mistakes after the first set of black pirates, and I also failed to take out the second set quickly. All in all I think this was still a pretty good segment.

Next up is Tourian! I haven't decided if I'm going to split up it up into two segments or not. More than likely I'll probably save before the Zebetites, since I always have trouble pulling off the glitch consistently.

Thanks for watching!

  • @CamusTheDark The purple bubble tile set was not used in the original SM. As far as I can tell, the creator just recolored the green set that is used in the northeast region of Norfair.

  • Old NES Norfair pallette 3:17

Is that used in the normal game? Or did he just recolor it. Since the old one had purple and green, and SM only took the green one over.
