YanksAtShea finds another archival goodie (some video-audio problems). Here's Mickey Mantle, the magnificent Yankee, hitting his last (unofficial) home run in the original Yankee Stadium before 46,000 + on Old Timer's Day 1973. Mick's buddy Whitey Ford serves up some nice ones for this homer finale (this is also the last OTD in the original Yankee Stadium). Catch his first foul home run with Mel Allen encouraging him right afterwards to "Straighten it out, Mick!!" This is as sentimental a favorite if ever there was one. Long live Mickey, Whitey, Mel Allen, and the memories of the original Yankee Stadium.

I was 18 years old and in the third base dugout on this day. (I won't say exactly how I got in there!) Watching the back and forth between Mickey and Whitey was amazing and I'll always remember how the crowd... and everyone in the dugouts, too... went nuts when he hit it. I still have the baseball he and Joe D. signed for me that day.

your an idiot. its a baseball game. that's what everybody was there for, entertainment. People cheer for that shit b/c even in retirement Mickey was still a beast at the plate. He didn't do it to make Whitey look bad he did it b/c he is a badass. Would you feel better if he struck out? Why don't you go hit your wife or dog to help you feel better. Brah.

WOW!!!! Even in retirement facing his old teammate Mantle is to be feared at the plate. What a hitter that Mick. Wish I had that homerun ball. Anyone know if it has ever been for sale on the market?

Because it's an old timers game, Ford and Mantle were best friends and all of Yankee stadium including Whitey Ford wanted to see it. I'm assuming ur question is serious?

Pay attention guys! This is Old Timer's Day, a yearly exhibition game played by retired players that's been a Yankee Stadium tradition for many decades now. Of course those pitches were slow, they're old timers throwing them.

No doubt a gopher ball, but what the hack, Mantle could still cream the ball then.
