Lyrically, the song is about class economics and race and many people thought it was advocating race war. But Strummer was trying to appeal to white youths to find a worthy cause to riot. "Are you taking over, or are you taking orders? Are you going backwards, or are you going forwards?" Give Joe some credit people! Long live Strummer!

The song was written after Joe Strummer and bassist Paul Simonon were involved in the riots at the Notting Hill Carnival of 1976.[1]

There's no such thing as "the truth". If you by "truth" mean that coloured people somehow are worse, or less worth than white, and that mosques are worse than churches. Wow, I knew a lot of England was white power supporters, but come on! Your grandfathers helped fight disgusting nazis and racists, how can you dishonour them like this?
