Homecoming Shine 2009 Carrick Festival of Light; the seaside town of Girvan in the South West of Scotland will play host to a series of artworks and installations, created by artists in residence and local residents to celebrate the areas heritage and culture. The weeklong event runs from 31st October till the 7th November from 6 - 9pm utilising prominent landmarks, shop fronts and vacant properties to shed a new light on the town and make it Shine.
On Saturday 7th November the town plays host to the Homecoming Lantern Procession with Rabbie Burns Tam O Shanter riding through Ayrshire from South to North for the first time in recorded history, featuring the massive lantern created for Homecoming by Scots Artist Graeme Gilmour and his arts team Ewan Hunter and David Powell. Tam will head a host of giant lanterns and lanterns made by local children to create a fabulous river of light flowing through the town to the shore front in a fantastic community celebration. On the shorefront witness the burning of the Homecoming 5 Pillars sculpture on the Girvan Shorefront created by artist David Powell, and watch the Girvan Attractions Fireworks Spectacular bring the evening to a close.
Rightly regarded as one of the best nights in the west, come and join the people of Carrick for a unique celebration of Homecoming and make it Shine in 2009. If you want to join the Festivities Lantern workshops will be running throughout the area until October 31st with some spooky specials...
