You are watching unedited ambient footage of a Tea Party in downtown Cleveland on "Tax Day," April 15, 2010.
Normally I would never be at a rally, but activists and the press have been dominating online coverage of Tea Parties and both have a strong incentive to draw a caricature of these protests. I wanted to see for myself what Tea Parties were really like.
Two days in advance, I wrote down a list of predictions:
-protest will be tame and peaceful
-definitely not a bunch of econ professors, but also definitely not a bunch of wild-eyed hillbillies
-Republican-induced big government will receive only short mention
-nothing blatantly racist, hardly anything even implicating race or ethnicity
-the speakers will not say anything that one couldn't easily picture Obama saying
I think all these expectations proved accurate.
(Sorry for the poor video quality, I compressed it a bit to upload faster.)
