Amy Ridenour of the National Center for Public Policy Research discusses the de facto ban on standard incandescent 100 watt light bulbs, set to go into effect nationally on 1/1/12, that Congress adopted in 2007, and recent efforts to repeal the ban on WGN Chiacgo's "Extension 720" show with host Milt Rosenberg.
The reasons for the ban and reasons for resistance to the ban are discussed.
The interview also briefly touches upon several other governmental rules affecting common consumer products, including rules reducing the amount of water in toilets, proposed bans on salt shakers on restaurant tables, regulations reducing the amount of water and the temperature of water in home washing machines, rules reducing dishwasher effectiveness and rules making automobiles less crashworthy.
The interview was broadcast on 7/8/11.
