After the wall comes up, and you jump past those three trees, what happens when you just stand on the top of the platform (the one that's on both screens) ?

The wall just goes through it, leaving the top part ok.

Indeed... but then how do you get past the spikes on the ground that the rolling wall exposes? You can't, hence you have to run like a maniac.

@ 7:33, I watched it frame by frame (on my iPod, I'm not sure if you can do it on the desktop), and it looked like you somehow stuck to the wall jump surface above the spike.

Man, I'm not looking forward to this section when I get to it... I'm at the Ghouls n Ghosts section right now, at the save before the moon ledge on Hard. X_X
