Great catch! Freights do use the Lowell line to get cars from Somerville to Lowell or Ayer. Can't go up the Haverhill line to Lowell Jct in Andover because they removed the track that connects northbound Haverhill trains from entering the main freight line. PS: You're spelling Woburn wrong. Only one U.
Awesome that means NHN engines run through my town. Thats what I used to think until I read about the interchange with guilford but I didn't know the same engines were used. Too bad it usually runs in the night or I might see it sometime.
That's not the gravel train, those are scrap cars coming from the scrap company in Chelsea. This train is LA-1, the NHN gravel train is DOBO/BODO, and always uses NHN locomotives.
Cool I've never seen a Guilford thru woburn. Its not rare for a guilford to go thru anderson but its rare in the daylight. I believe the gravel trains like this go to Boston 3 times a week and interchange with NHN at Dover.
Nice catch but this is not rare. The Lawrence locals go up the New Hampshire route frequently to get into Boston.

@diburning It's actually Schnitzer Steel. Sullivan Cars are EAMX.

Guilford crews take over in Dover, but they use the NHN power all the way into Boston.
Scrap cars come from Schnitzer in Everett, with some going out over CSX and other over Guilford.

I'm confused I thought the gravel train used guilford engines after Dover. Where do the scrap cars go?
