A nice quite Tuesday night spent with, I guess, one of my all time FAVs, Dion, I mean, Yo! Growing up Dion was my idol, probably still is. I just had to have everything he ever recorded, even his book " The Wanderer" These are just a few OFF-THE-WALL tunes by him that I grew up with, enjoy them like I have.

  • A few years ago (sometime in the early 60's I would load up my record player with as many Dion 45's that it would hold and have them on replay ALL NIGHT LONG. Would have not made it through high school without them...not to mention all the girl friends they helped me get. Ahh, what a life back then!! And he still thrills me with his music.

  • I thought I was alone my friend! Everynight, I would load the old gray Emerson w/ gold grille Hi-Fi with most of LPs shown above & do the same thing as you! When I was in Elementary school & the Beatles hit the US all my friends became Beatles fans, not me, no way, Dion was my hero! They were singing She Loves You, I was singing Lovers Who Wander. They were great days, sadly the kids today will never have the great memories we had 50s&60s, all they'll have is X-Box & ipod memories.

  • I was in High School when the Beatles hit the US (and I liked them) but about that time my favorite album was "I Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound" which was a new sound for Dion (definately not DooWop). That was just a transformation for me...he kept singing and I kept listening. But DooWop brings me much more joy than anything else. My young friend, thank you for what you do...and keep them coming 'cause you are my source for rare DooWop!!!

  • I didn't really follow up on much after he recorded "Be Careful Of Stones That You Through" He changed 2 keep up with the times, Hoochie Coolchie Man, I have them but I love the Dum Diddly, Lah Lah sound, the Dion sound. He was one of the very few that could sing a tune anyway he wanted to & make it sound great, early tunes I mean. Abraham Martin & John, I couldn't buy the 45 fast enough. I was lucky enough to see him twice, fantastic!

TY 4 your compliment, many more to post, maybe tonight?

  • ahhhhhhh, nobody does it better !!!! The kings of doowop.

    Thank you,

    Ken

  • I have to agree Ken, thank you!

  • @dowopper51 I'm one of those kids who are going to have ipod memories and i envy you guys. I want so much to have been born 60 years ago. Things were better and music was music, not auto tune and Cd's.

  • Check out Joel Katz' version. Real good!!

  • @tinageliisus I agree with you 100%, it's why I love listening to music of the 50's and 60's, it's so much better than what we have today, I would've loved to live back then to harmonize with the guys on the street corner or in the school hallway

  • LOVED, LOVED - DION & THE BELMONTS - THANKS GUYS!

Bunny Gibson - Original American Bandstand Regular - Philly dancer

  • Doo Wop at its' finest! Sounds even better when sung A-Capella like we used to do in the stairwells of Jamaica High.
