there foot inside the door frame so that you can't close the door on them.

i'm sorry i'm from Italy... i love mad men and roger sterling, but i don't understand why this should be funny... maybe cause he is referring to some words or phrase used in american culture...right? can someone explain this to me, please...?
Explanation: Party for the Sterling Cooper & British ad agency merger. A ride-on mower is in the office (gift from another client). People get tipsy. Incompetent secretary drives mower, runs over the foot of new British exec. Brit exec has badly mangled foot, walls have blood all over them, Roger has epic zinger.
