5.56 Tracer Rounds

Some more tracer round fun.

There is a hill with in the trees so I know where my rounds are going. There is no one on that piece of property, as I own it. Don't worry I take my pre-cautions.

The reason for the bullets deflection is my barrel. I have a 1:9 twist ratio. Typical military rifles have a 1:14 twist. Therefore after about 150-200 yds these tracer rounds lose consistent flight and can go in any direction. This is the reason I only shoot them in one direction, far away from where any people would be standing.

I am right handed but shoot left, due to being left eye dominant. It does not affect my shooting of semi-automatic weapons, but I tend to look for left hand bolt action rifles.

You are wrong in your comments about 1 in 14 twist for .mil rifles. M16 and M4 varient rifles are 1 in 7 twist. I'm a unit armorer in the Army.

@scuds03 Interesting, everything I have been told or read is that the M16/M4 is a 1:14 twist. I was also in the ARMY and have spoke with numerous armorers.

do the bullets hit the trees when they curve or do they just do that?
