Whether you go to school, get together with a group of friends, or put a call out on the Internet, you need to show you can work on a team...if you want a job in game development. And you need to actually create a playable game, advised Derek Such, programmer with High Voltage Software.
Game developers are looking for talented people who can demonstrate that they can implement a game and hit the ground running if hired. Team work is critical. Working alone just doesn't fly in the game industry. Team members can really help each other out and save each other a lot of time, even when they've got different disciplines.
