1 cup dried beans = 3 cups cooked
Canned beans are 3x more expensive than dried!

Step 1: Rinse beans in a colander and remove any ugly ones or stones.
Step 2: Soak 6-8 hours, 1 part beans: 4 parts water.
Step 3: Drain, return to crock pot, add new water to cover beans plus 2 inches higher. Cook on low 6-8 hours.
Step 4: Drain and serve or freeze!

*Epazote= Mexican herb. Add it to your beans while cooking to reduce gassiness.

  • Thanks again for this tutorial. I just bought some bulk dry beans and will try them out. 3# for $1, and a secondhand store crock pot $8, like new. I need to look for that Mexican spice..ipasote' ??? In time, I'll get the hang of it.

  • @jws54 That's great. It will save you a lot of money. Good luck! The herb is "epazote."

  • Beans grow above ground in pods. Think of how you grow green beans.... It's potatoes that are grown underground. lol I wonder how they get the stones in there... :) Good budget friendly bean ideas!

  • @brittanykay22109 So embarrassing - I have grown beans! I never really thought about why there'd be stones mixed in, then I started thinking about peanuts being legumes and growing underground... lol. Oh well!

  • Hi Katie, I watched your vid on making veggie stock the other day and I've just come back to watch this one on beans! I have been buying canned beans for my son to eat and he loves them, but I've read sometime that canned foods can have BPA from the cans or can linings? Anyway, really got me thinking about using dried beans, which I had been wanting to do for a while anyway! Thanks for this tutorial! I love saving money and that you're so real in your vids. Thanks! Keep 'em coming!

  • your pretty

  • @katulka2 Hehe. At least it was cute!
