Jewel Song - Faust Contest - Luciana Serra

I wanted to use this contest to explain something about what these "contests" mean. I hope that people don't view these as a real contest, so to speak. I wanted them to be a collection of videos where differnt performers sing the same music. I find it interesting to view and listen to a variety of performances. Some people seem to think I want to portray certain artists in a poor light, this couldn't be further from the truth. Even the "worst" singer can provide new insights on a role. This contest is being uploaded in request, again a score of 1-5 for singing/characterization:

I think that may be the recording and not her voice -- listen to something from one of her CD's and you'll hear what I mean.

I am not a fan of her vibratto. She sounds like she's singing through a fan.

Not bad, she's a coloratura soprano and she does seem to have some brief weird trills but it's not bad. She has a great voice for the role of Marguerite in Faust!

Serra seems to be good at displaying coquettish charm, if not more passionate emotion. The singing is skillful too, compared to some of her other performances I've heard. 4.5/5
