NTV scooped four awards at the prestigious CNN Multi-Choice African Journalist of the Year awards, Kaara Wainaina and Roseline Wangui together with cameramen Charles Kariuki and Francis Mugo emerged the best journalists in television news
African journalist should never rate the "growth of our journalism" on whether or not Western powers, be they media or otherwise "acknowledge" or "reward" our "hard work." We need to get off of this slavish mentality of seeking to be validated by the "civilized Wests."This is what we in political science call "soft power," the fact that an african journalist can be doing presumably rewarding work for years and than after winning a cnn award, say "this is the beginning of my journalism career."
The real emerging powers (Brazil,China, Turkey,Iran, Malaysia etc.) are not given these rewards for a reason, because just like their politics, their media does not use the Western standards of right n wrong to dictate interest of their nation. This is not to say that Western standards are bad or Turkish etc. standards good, this is only to say that they Western standards are just that Western, and what they are here rewarding is the Africans who do the best at reflecting their, Western Standards
@MRMUTOONI, I dont disagree with you on who is the best. Even if they choose who to represent them, dont forget that those choosen compete with other African journalists, and they win....I believe I dont need to explain further.
@machasan They choose who to represent Nation Media . Machasan, unless you live in the cave, you will agree with me that Rita Tinina , Emanuel Juma, Breda Mlinya or Mulenya and Kariuki Wainaina makes the grade way over and above those strage faces we saw getting an award.
@mwanamuciare i have removed my coments to make you happy. Please im not Kikuyu phobia. If i was i would have suported Rutos actions against your community.
Well done Nation Media Group!
