In May of 1536, following a series of unsuccessful births, Queen Anne would dramatically fall from grace, and pay the ultimate price in the process. But why did Anne fall from such a great height following her short reign, which had taken so many years to achieve?

BTW Ive just purchased Elizabeth Nortons biography of Anne (it has yet to arrive but I suspect it is popular history rather than a serious piece of work that is going to propose anything new!).

Finally, I haven't seen this all yet but I am so delighted to hear that you take up the view that it was not solely Anne's miscarriage that doomed her and that Cromwell and his own ideas, Spanish Alliance yadda yadda was a major reason...everyone always thumbs me down when I say that :(

If she had a son,I suspect that King Henry still would have found a way to rid himself of her. Now if the son was born FIRST,when their relationship was still strong,she'd have been untouchable. But towards the latter part of their relationship,it would have been over. Too many hated her,Cromwell was down on her,and King Henry favored a Spanish alliance. Plus,their personalities clashed so violently. Anne Boleyn was also serious political liability.

I often wonder what would have happened if Anne did gave birth to a son...Would she have remained queen and therefore Henry VIII and his 2 wives since everything depended on the birth of a male heir. Surely Anne greatest legay is through her daughter Elizabeth I....but it makes you wonder what d happened and therefor would it have changed the course of history

there are a lot of people who say that henry may have had mercury poisoning placed in his drink for many years that slowly made him insane. which is why the terror only actually became visible in the second half of his reign.
