It's a pleasure to present to you an early Golden Book Video Classic, "Scuffy the Tugboat and Other Stories" (formerly released as "3 Favorite Stories"). This is one of the first ones ever produced!

This part features the classic (and rather creepy) story "What Was That!" An eek! A creak! And a squeak! send Baby Bear skedaddling for safety. An unquiet night in the Bears' woodland cottage conveys a reassuring (Yeah, right!) message about things that go "bump!" in the night.

Also note how the story was altered quite a bit (i.e. the addition of a getting-ready-for-bed sequence and a breakfast scene at the end), and how it was intensified for dramatic effect.

Special thanks to doughnutser256 for supplying the video!

  • I noticed sometimething after watching this. The sides of the house are a dark navy blue-like color when the bears skedaddle for safety to another room, and the side of the house is the normal brightened blue color. I wonder if the darker color during the unnerving parts symbolize fear and night terror-like feelings and the brighter blue represents calmness! I am just curious, what would you think?

  • That seems very likely; color can be used to represent the mood often. The old "Gerald McBoing Boing" cartoon from 1950 used colors to represent the moods, too.

  • @musicbox193 The outside logs of the cabin!

  • The book sounds so weird compared to the video

  • @teletubbybuddy Hey are you trying to make fun of me or did you actually have a dream like that? I had and actual nightmare once dealing with the 3 bears coming out of the closet in my bedroom and them attacking me and killing me while I was in bed in the dream.

  • @doughnutser256 yeah,I had a dream that I was the second -oldest bear and we herd the "demon'' come around 6:30 and we ran into him in the hall

  • Holy shit! I totally watched this about a couple of times in my childhood.

  • @doughnutser256 well teh sillouette stuff is added, it makes sense, but when it's not in silloute then it must have come from somewhere because these videos are done with the original artwork

  • @doughnutser256 what do you mean the sides of the house? I did notice that the walls change color though

  • @doughnutser256 then where did they get the kitche scene and the other couple of smaller scenes that don't appear in the book?

  • @musicbox193 I don't think so! There were only re-releases of this book.

  • @powerpup97 As well as the eyes in the dark parts and the sing along parts!
