It is rainy outside and I'm sick so I threw this together for fun. I don't know... but I think it is the best speaker on earth. -OR- these are just some fun open baffle speakers, -OR- these are just speakers on a stick... you decide ;) The source is iTunes 256k mp3 on my mac. • sound like speakers on a stick to me.

  • @Soothsayerman Thats what they are, speakers on a stick. But do they sound $106,900 worse than the YG Anat?

  • boomy bass and hollowed out midrange. It's actually quite annoying.

  • @rw5791 Thank you for your opinion. Could you post a video of your system so I will know how good audio should sound? Best wishes.

  • hold on to those old papercones, people. The mother of tone is in those drivers. I have a pair of russian 4GD-35s, made way back in the 50s, when the world knew ever so little about something called: cost efficency. And on an open baffle, they sound just so sweet...

but using a EPS board as a baffle...sure does make me wonder, is there any coloration left?

  • Hi Tartupets,

Could you tell me more about your Russian paper cones? Interesting! Any pics? Yes the styrofoam baffles do resonate at around 50hz giving me an extra 10db that I dont get with wood baffle of the same size. I now use two drivers 'stacked' back to back wired dipole for cleaner transients. The list of modern drivers these 7x11 Grundigs have beat is growing, now including Audio Nirvana 8 inch and 10 inch, Tang Band W8-1808 and Eminence Alpha with a variety of full range drivers.

  • @engjds You are right, my system is nothing special. Lets hear your system.

  • @engjds Even in youtube you can hear all the box coloration in generic speakers. These have none of that. That's why it sounds very clean. compare this clip with those of sonus faber, YG, whatever you name it.

    btw. use headphones.

  • you should build the same kind of semi-enclosure for the mid/tweeters just like you did for the woofers and you'll get much better miss mids

  • @tartupets I had a pair of 60 litre particle board cabinets with 2x7 1/2 inch woofers and a single 2 1/2 inch tweeter. 2 way crossover, extremely simple in design. Topped with an old Philip's amplifier they sounded darn good, plenty of bass (for bass fiends) and a reasonable amount of treble for those classical albums.

A note about this video though, Oval Cones? Seriously? They don't pull/push evenly...

  • I got to admit not bad at all, Good job.

  • don't let the haters discourage you, this sounds awesome!

  • Not bad for open baffle cabinets. Nice setup man.

  • Nice ! im very impressed with the lively soundstage. I my self own B&W 802D and Rotels , and i must say , for speakers on a stick , they have an excellent sound .

  • YOUR AMP TUBE TYPE is good and oval speakers paper cone vintages .. amazing still sound good and the tweeter i prepare horn type and the player must be vinyl records ... it's mellow sounds .. my opinion ,thanks guys

  • They are kind of cute :) LOL. I would have put the small and large driver closer together....unless the crossover point is quit low (if there is a crossover). Either way, for what it is, sounds pretty lively to me :)
