see, I disagree. I don't look at it as hey, this is who I am. It's sort of a symbolic showing of power. He's saying I'm Jean Valjean after Javert keeps calling him 24601. Then, Javert basically says I don't care, I'm Javert, I'm in power, and you'll always be 24601, a slave. I always loved that part. Ya, they know each other, it's not an introduction.
