  • What a superb batsman was David Gower. Too bad I was a toddler when he was in his prime. His test average of 44 does not take into account the hostile bowling of the West Indies and others and was not as easy as it is today (not giving a knock on today's bowlers but I think it was more intimidating then)

  • Pure class!

  • Paul downton is my second cousin (wicket keeper)

  • How unlucky would you have to be to get out c Phillips b O'Donnell?

  • David Gower a very classy cricketer and human being. A bit like Andrew Strauss today another gentleman cricketer. A credit to England team.

  • Ian Botham was having a go at Michael Beer for taking a wicket of a no-ball at Sydney last night... and here he is in 1985- TAKING A WICKET OFF A NO-BALL!

  • I was there for the first two days of this match.

My hands hurt from clapping so much!

  • them wooz the daze

  • Thanks for posting this. I remember this innings very well.

  • Probably the most boring ashes test match ever but one I will never 4get!..........made memorable by 1) Gower's inns of 166 2) Saturday's play - truly unforgettable - it was 13th July 1985 - LIVE AID day! People forget that around the same time Queen blew everyone away on bbc1, on bbc2 Botham was creating a rumpus of his own with Umpire Whitehead. Wat a day !
