when usuing widow makers to compress the spring you are best to use and air impact to remove the strut nut , putting it in the vice can and sometimes does cause the widow makers to let go and thoes nuts are usualy on pretty tight so the impact is safer if the widow maker lets go it can kill you or seriously injure you if your in the way when it lets go...

My struts are weird. I had to clamp down on the piston to stop it from rotating.
